Insect Spotlight – Masked Hunter

The masked hunter is an insect belonging to the assassin bug (Reduviidae) family. The name is because its nymphs camouflage themselves with dust. They hunt smaller arthropods which include lice, earwigs, bed bugs, and lacewings. When mishandled by humans they will bite which can be extremely painful. The bites pain level is to be about the same as a wasp sting. Masked hunters are not known to transmit diseases so medical attention is not needed after a bite.
